As an American citizen it's really easy to travel through Europe and Asia. You don't need a visa in most places or they can be acquired at the border. There are some exceptions and sometimes visa's are costly. For example we wanted to go to Turkey until we found out it would cost us each $100 thanks to "Iraqi freedom" or was it "Just 'Cause". Check ahead and only get a visa if you're sure of when and how long you plan to visit a country.
